Fitzgerald Walker Honored By MCAMW

Fitzgerald Walker, academic advisor and manager for outreach and recruitment at the University of Maryland’s (UMD) mechanical engineering department, has received a prestigious award from the Mechanical Contractors Association of Metropolitan Washington (MCAMW).

The MCAMW chose Walker as the recipient of its 2023 Mechanical Contractors Association President’s Award, citing his outstanding commitment to the UMD’s MCAMW student chapter. 

“We are honored to celebrate Mr. Walker for his tireless efforts in fostering a strong connection between our student chapter and MCAMW contractors,” the organization said in a statement. “Walker’s dedication to our UMD Student Chapter has been unprecedented and unmatched. He has consistently gone above and beyond to recruit and mentor the best and brightest students, providing them with invaluable opportunities to pursue internships and full-time employment within the MCAMW contractor community.”

Walker is advisor for the UMD student chapter, which provides students with a platform to connect with industry professionals, gain real-world experience, and embark on promising careers in mechanical contracting. During his tenure as advisor, the UMD chapter has gained national recognition from the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA).

A native of Baltimore, Walker joined the UMD mechanical engineering department in 2007, first as a graduate coordinator and later as undergraduate advisor and program manager. He has served as the MCAMW advisor since 2020.

Walker holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Maryland Global Campus, In his spare time, he enjoys what he calls the “three Gs”: gardening, grilling, and golf.
