Energy Systems for A Carbon Constrained World

Lecturer: Dr. Geo Richards - National Energy Technology Labs

Original Air Date: Friday, March 30th at 2:00pm

Abstract: Richards will discuss efforts to develop energy systems suitable for carbon dioxide capture and storage. Geological storage options for CO2 include depleted oil and gas reservoirs, unmineable coal seams, and deep saline formations. These storage options will be described. A review of techniques to efficiently capture carbon dioxide from power plants is presented along with estimates of the efficiency of these power plants. Advanced power cycles using fuel cells and so-called "zero-emission" combustion will also be discussed.
