Modeling of Combustion Systems
Computational Premixed Burner Studies
Investigator: Maneesh Gupta
The objective of the first phase of this program is to develop a computational
model that would predict the flow in a double concentric swirl combustor. A test
matrix is configured in which swirl strength in each annulus, momentum ratio and
equivalence ratio in each annulus is systematically varied to isolate the effect
of each of these parameters on the flow-field. Once a successful combustion
model has been developed, research efforts will be channelized towards
performing parametric studies that would serve to shorten the experimental test
matrix. The coupled computational - experimental scheme would then be extended
to more complex flows in the study, like thermally stratified flows involving
gases with varying densities.
